Abstract
In non-linear systems, e.g. inversion of long offset seismic data for velocity, it is difficult to map the uncertainty from the data into the model space. I will propose a Monte-Carlo based random walk method, called the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm, as a possible method. I will also show more sinister effects of model inadequacy caused by simplification of physics and model parameterisation that ultimately limit the accuracy of the results.
