Abstract
The heavy-fermion compound CeRhIn5: d-wave superconductivity and density waves The recent observation of charge-density-waves in various cuprate superconductors has attracted significant interest and once more highlighted the importance of multiple, co-existing and potentially competing phases in strongly correlated systems. The heavy-fermion CeRhIn5 orders anti-ferromagnetically at 3.8K and the application of moderate pressure around 2GPa induces unconventional d-wave superconductivity, most likely mediated by spin-fluctuations of the suppressed AFM order. We found evidence for an additional phase in this compound: a field induced density-wave. The phase transition is signaled by a hysteretic jump more than doubling the in-plane resistivity accompanied by the appearance of non-linear electrical transport at high magnetic fields (>28T), which are the distinctive characteristics of density-wave like states. A Fermi-surface reconstruction at the transition is indicated by the appearance of new Shubnikov-de Haas frequencies.
