Arctic Science at Ny-Alesund Research Station

Abstract
In 1991, Nick Cox left BAS to establish a UK research station at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard for NERC . In 1995, BAS took over responsibility and ownership of the station. Ny-Alesund has blossomed into an international research village comprising 14 stations. Nick will talk about Svalbard’s history, geography, and the UK station. Kevin Newsham, who has visited the station on several occasions, will talk about setting up scientific projects in Kings Bay.
