Professor Russell Cowburn gives a talk about what happens when nanotechnology meets magnetism – see the abstract below for more details.

(Abstract:) Nanomagnets are structures in which advanced nanotechnology techniques borrowed from the microelectronics industry are applied to magnetic materials. Many magnetic materials behave very differently when made small. In many cases these new physical properties lead to useful new applications. In this talk I describe the underlying physics of what happens when nanotechnology meets magnetism and show some examples of new technologies that are being developed, including ultralow energy computer chips and novel cancer therapies.
