Abstract
Turbulent fountains are formed whenever the momentum of an energetic vertical releases of fluid is opposed by a buoyancy force. They occur in the oceans and atmosphere, and are utilised in the ventilation and heating of buildings. Recent advances in the understanding of these fountains will be discussed and details of fundamental scaling arguments presented.
