The second talk in the new ‘Lectures in the Humanities Series’, organised by the Cambridge Humanities Review, will be delivered by the recently appointed Vere Harmsworth Professor of Imperial and Naval History Alison Bashford, discussing her book Global Population: history, geopolitics and life on earth (Columbia University Press, 2014). Global Population traces the idea of a world population problem from the 1920s in terms of migration, colonial expansion, globalization and world food plans. Professor Bashford’s research connects the history of modern science and medicine, imperial history and environmental history. Representatives of Heffers Bookshop will be in attendance to sell copies of the book.
