Mechanical factors underlying aortic stiffness, aneurysms and dissections

Abstract
Evidence over the past two decades has revealed the importance of increased aortic stiffness as an initiator and indicator of cardiovascular disease. In this talk we will discuss lessons learned from mouse models of aortic disease, including “early vascular aging” and its relation to the development of aneurysms and dissections. We will focus on relations of wall mechanics with underlying microstructure, including unique roles of elastic fibers, collagen, and glycosaminoglycans.
