Abstract
A perfect fluid is one of the simplest fluid systems imaginable, and it can be described classically by an effective field theory. However, quantising this theory – i.e. putting said action in a path integral and computing correlators – has proved difficult, as, owing to the unrestrained excitations of transverse modes, correlators diverge at late times. After reviewing the above, I will show how to extract useful information from the path integral, providing evidence that a “quantum perfect fluid” is a consistent theory (with interesting behaviour).
