Abstract
What are analogue computers? They are widely considered as “ancient” and “useless” pieces of technology. My talk will debunk this misconception.
I will start by giving an overview of the different types of analogue computer, and their real-life applications. We will talk about electronic devices called operational amplifiers and discuss their characteristics. The talk will then move on to give an in-depth look into how we can use them to solve differential equations in electronic analogue computers and the potential limitations to the approach. Finally, we will take a sneak peek at what the future may hold for analogue computing.
Series This talk is part of the Churchill CompSci Talks series.
