Global outlook for nuclear
- 👤 Speaker: Mr Tony Roulstone ( Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge)
- 📅 Date & Time: Thursday 11 December 2014, 16:00 - 17:00
- 📍 Venue: Cambridge University Engineering Department, Lecture Room 5
Abstract
Though it has taken more than eight years from the first indications that new nuclear build in the UK would be welcomed, the prospects for nuclear within a broad energy strategy in UK and elsewhere around the world, now look very promising. The talk discusses these plans and their uncertainties based on common needs of countries to: address climate change, have stable costs and secure energy supplies. The revived interest in nuclear energy is also stimulating a range of new and different reactor designs, including those with the aim of burning nuclear waste and reducing costs.
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Department Nuclear Energy Seminars series.
