As smartphones proliferate throughout society, so too does the opportunity to leverage these devices to study, understand, and positively affect human behavior.

Smartphones are both increasingly powerful computational devices, as well evermore indispensable in our daily routines—making them an ideal tool for collecting data about daily life.

In our research, we have been examining how smartphone data and machine learning can be used to learn about behavior in a variety of domains. In this talk, I will describe two examples from our work using smartphones, in the domains of (1) psychology and well-being, and (2) a smoking cessation intervention.
