Abstract
Two types of source tensor can appear on the right hand side of Einstein’s gravitational field equations. One is a stress tensor for matter. The other (which leads to higher-derivative corrections) is a tensor obtained by variation of some gravitational invariant. But in three spacetime dimensions (3D) there is a ``third way’’. Starting with ``Topologically Massive Gravity’’ (TMG) the 3rd way yields ``Minimal Massive Gravity’’ (MMG), which resolves the holographic unitarity problem of TMG . Starting with 3D Yang-Mills theory, the 3rd way yields a new class of gauge theories.
