Abstract

Afonso Fleury from University of São Paulo, Brazil, and Maria Tereza Fleury, from Fundacao Getulio Vargas, are going to share their recent thoughts on international operations network design and implementatioin. One of the interesting research gaps between classical IB (International Business) and OM (Operations Management) is disconnection between product production/supply networks and multinational corporations’ governance/administration networks. The seminar seeks to provide a new conceptual framework in order to integrate the two approaches together in the international operations network design and operations.

Afonso Fleury is a professor in the Production Engineering Department at the University of São Paulo. Maria Tereza is the Dean of Fundacao Getulio Vargas’ business school. They are also consultants to Brazilian public and private firms as well as subsidiaries of multinationals. They published on the topic widely including Brazilian Multinationals (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and The Competitive Advantage of Emerging Market Multinationals (Cambridge University Press, 2013). They are collaborating with IfM, especially with Centre for International Manufacturing (CIM), for more than ten years.
