Abstract
Dr Joseph Conlon from the University of Oxford gives a talk on “axions” – see the abstract below for more details.
Admission is free to CUPS members, or ÂŖ2 otherwise. As always, wine and cheese will be served after the talk.
(Abstract:) This talk is about searches for dark stuff: dark matter and dark radiation. Axions are possible new particles beyond the Standard Model which are good candidates for this dark stuff. Axions turn into photons within magnetic field and this talk will give some examples of this, crossing from string theory to extra dimensions to X-ray astronomy to the power spectra of the magnetic field within galaxy clusters.
Series This talk is part of the Cambridge University Physics Society series.
