Abstract
The “temperature” of dark matter is very relevant for the formation of galaxies. I will discuss how the Lyman-alpha forest in high-resolution quasar absorption spectra can be used to constrain the “thermal” velocities and therefore the nature of dark matter. I will further briefly discuss the use of quasar absorption spectra to constrain the variability of fundamental constants now and in future with 30m-class telescopes like the ESO -ELT.
