Abstract
For the first 20 years of the Internet’s existence, cyberspace and the ‘real’ world were essentially parallel universes. From 1993 onwards, the two universes gradually merged to give us the world we now inhabit—on in which the affordances of digital technology combine with those of the physical world. No wonder we’re having trouble understanding it.
