Abstract
I am interested in building robots that understand us and communicate with us in the way that people do. I envision a future where we treat robots as more than tools but as collaborators; I envision a future where robots can reason about our emotions, as well as their own. What are the requirements for a social robot? Why do social robots matter? In my talk, I will discuss the vision for social robotics, the fields motivations, and a case study of KISMET . I will conclude with a brief overview of research at the MIT Media Labβs Personal Robot Group since KISMET .
