Abstract
Resonant diffraction techniques are used when standard βstandardβ powder or single crystal diffraction experiments are not providing a complete description of the crystal structure. In these anomalous scattering techniques the energy-dependence of the dispersion correction to the structure factor is crucial for the determination of the absolute structure and to solve the phase problem in macromolecular crystallography. Moreover, resonant scattering can be exploited to probe unoccupied states in the valence band and hence help to determine the electronic properties of condensed matter. In this lecture the basics of resonant scattering are introduced and highlighted on a few examples.
