The study of superradiance in black hole spacetimes has a long tradition in the physics literature. A superradiant black hole can radiate β€œenergy” through the horizon, which possibly causes instabilities. I will give an overview of results about (massive) wave equations in some black hole spacetimes and I will describe how superradiance manifests itself on the level of these equations. In particular, I will discuss exponentially growing finite energy solutions to the Klein-Gordon equation. I shall try to keep this talk on an accessible level, avoiding technical details.
