Abstract
Gauge/gravity duality can be used to study the transport properties of strongly interacting systems with no quasiparticles. I will discuss a holographic toy model of a state like this, in which momentum is not conserved and thus the transport of heat and charge is non-trivial. I will explain the physical processes underlying the conductivities of this system, and how these can be understood in terms of simple, non-holographic effective theories.
