Abstract
Construction of Precast Segmental Viaducts in Hong Kong: This presentation will look at the practical aspects of designing and building 2km of precast segmental viaduct from the contractor’s perspective. Aspects touched on will include alignment control (how to make it meet in the middle), value engineering (a bridge with no bearings) and communication (in Cantonese). This is the story of the two years I spent on site between 2003-2005, acting as design representative for my employer, structural engineering firm Benaim.
