Abstract
After beginning with a well-known conjecture on closed 3-manifolds between L-spaces and left-orderability, I will introduce the notion of taut foliations before sidestepping to manifolds with torus boundary. I will then discuss some related and interesting ideas including Floer simple knots and manifolds, Pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms, train tracks and how these are related to the existence of foliations. Time permitting, I will end by briefly sharing the computational work that I’ve been doing with regards to these topics.
