Abstract
Micro-resonators were first demonstrated operating in the THz region in 2005 and have drawn lots of attention due to ensure probability to realize the dream of producing ultrasmall devices with extremely low current as well as low electric power. In micro-resonators, the emission is isotropic and mainly in the disk plane. The practice of integrating a terahertz disk laser or ring laser with a vertically emitting grating by fabricating a distributed feedback structure along the circumference of the disk to couple out the Whispering gallery mode in the vertical direction greatly increases the emitted power, and at the same time, significantly enhances the directionality and minimizes the volume of the output beam, which is a crucial aspect for future implementations and development of sensing elements.
