Observations of the 0.7 anomaly in p-type quantum point contacts (SP Workshop)

Abstract
The 0.7-anomaly in 1D conductance has been the focus of many research efforts since its discovery, however theoretical models have largely failed to account for all experimental observations of the feature in 1D electron conductance. Furthermore, few studies have addressed the properties of the 0.7 anomaly in hole-based 1D devices. In this work, we present measurements of the 0.7 anomaly in a GaAs quantum point contact. We demonstrate that our measurements qualitatively bear striking similarities with the recently proposed model of the 0.7 resulting from an enhanced local density of states via a smeared van Hove singularity about the peak of the quantum point contact potential barrier.
