Remote control of cell signalling using chemogenetics
- đ¤ Speaker: Johan Alsio & Bianca Jupp (Department of Psychology)
- đ Date & Time: Wednesday 01 July 2015, 18:30 - 20:00
- đ Venue: Gurdon Institute Tea Room
Abstract
The speakers will discuss designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADDs) that are increasingly being used to gain control of G protein-coupled receptor machinery in genetically and anatomically defined subtypes of cells, including neurons. After transgenic expression, this approach allows selective stimulation or inhibition of the cells by administering drugs that exclusively activate the designed receptors. The speakers will also highlight common applications in the field, present data from on-going experiments targeting neural circuitry, and discuss recent developments in the chemogenetic tool box.
