Abstract

In the Vet Futures survey of July 2015, vets stated that they wanted the top five priorities for the profession to be:

• Reducing stress

• Improving veterinary leadership on animal welfare

• Becoming respected and valued by society

• Developing a valued role for vets in education on responsible animal ownership

• Raising the profile of animal-related issues that affect public health

We probably can’t help with the first one, but having a vet in the House of Lords can help the veterinary profession make progress with the other four.

This talk will shed some light on myths about the House of Lords in the media, what actually goes on behind the velvet curtains, touches on the legislation (UK & EU) relevant to the veterinary profession and how it can be influenced. We hope you will enjoy it.
