Should there be limits to academic freedom?
- ๐ค Speaker: Professor James Flynn

- ๐ Venue: G/F Lecture Theatre, Department of Psychology, Downing Site, Cambridge
Abstract
The talk advocates that there should be no sanctions against academics who argue unpopular or controversial points of view. In my own career I have defended the position that differences in IQ between races are not due to genetics. While I disagree with my opponentsโ views, I believe they have a right to argue their position. Those who endorse the contrary must defend at least one of three indefensible propositions: you ought not believe what you think may be true; you ought not attempt to persuade those who may be in error; you ought not to use the scientific method to enhance belief in the truth.
