Abstract
After completing his PhD. in applied statistics at Princeton University, Dr Kerstein worked for 35 years at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA. He joined the Combustion Research Facility at Sandia shortly after its establishment and later became a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. He applied statistical techniques to a wide range of combustion and fluid flow problems including spray combustion, coal combustion, and solid propellant combustion. Dr Kerstein is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a past member of the editorial board of Physical Review, and he has served on the science boards of astrophysics and energy research consortia. He has authored or co-authored over 120 journal publications. Since his retirement in 2012, Dr Kerstein has served as a consultant to academic and research institutions.
