Abstract
“Now I a fourfold vision see,/And a fourfold vision is given to me” wrote William Blake to his friend, Thomas Butts. Fourfold Vision features prominently in Blakeβs work after c. 1800 in both his painting and poetry. I will examine this concept through the frames of Enlightenment philosophy, and recent developments in cognitive theory in order to bring out what I term ‘the concepts cognitive incentive’.
