Science and Ethics of Stem Cells

Abstract
Stem cells can be derived from most tissues of the body, but for purposes of stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine, the most valuable in the long term may prove to be the embryonic stem cells, derived from early preimplantation stages of embryo development. However, it is these stem cells that are of most ethical concern. Moral values vary between different cultures and different countries, and may shift with time. This talk will discuss ethical issues involved with early human embryos, and the impact of these ethical issues on regulations and laws relating to stem cell research internationally.
