Bringing together physics, chemistry and some biology, Sir Tom Blundell will be describing how his initiatives in drug discovery have moved to the Science Park in the early 2000s, but are now coming back to academia in order to work on new medicine for rare cancers and the diseases of third world poverty.

Sir Prof Blundell graduated from Brasenose College Oxford, and has held several distinguished research positions at Oxford University, Birkbeck College, and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Unit. He was Chief Execuitive of BBSRC from 1994-1996. Sir Prof Blundell has founded Astex, a highly successful company specialising in using computational techniques and X-ray crystallography to identify novel cancer drugs.
