Abstract
This presentation assesses the achievements and failures of 13 nobel laureates of African descent as Africa and its diaspora commemorated 50 years of Pan-Africanism in 2013. Lessons are drawn for peacemaking, civil rights, socioeconomic justice, environmental protection, nuclear disarmament, and women’s rights: all struggles in which the laureates have been engaged. Laureates covered include Ralph Bunche, Albert Luthuli,Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Desmond Tutu,Nelson Mandela, F.W. de Klerk, Anwar Sadat, Mohamed Elbaradei, Wangari Mร athai, Kofi Annan, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Leymah Gbowee.
