Blockchains are the technology behind digital crypto currencies such as BitCoin – but they can be used not only for rethinking how we trade and exchange monetary value. Because they exist as an irrefutable ledger or log of transactions, they can also be used for traceability and secure information sharing within supply chains and for checking the provenance of the products we buy – are they sustainably produced? are they genuine or are they counterfeits that have been inserted into legitimate supply chains. This seminar provides a technical introduction to how blockchain technology works – and how it could be applied to improve traceability and secure information sharing within supply chains.
