Abstract

Dmitry Vodennikov is a poet, an essayist and a radio presenter. He graduated from the department of philology of Moscow State Pedagogical University. Dmitry is an author of seven books of poetry. He writes essays and columns for several Russian newspapers and journals. For a number of years he has been hosting radio shows about contemporary Russian literature including Notes from a Neophyte, From One’s Own Angle (Своя колокольня), and Poetic Minimum. In 2002, he was named one of the ten best living Russian poets. He is considered the leader of New Sincerity movement in Russian literature.

On 23 February he will be visiting Cambridge as part of a nationwide tour, which the Department of Slavonic Studies has helped to sponsor.

His talk will be on the Russian poets who influenced him. These are some of the leading poets of the twentieth century in Soviet Russia. The talk will present this poet’s unique view of the role poetry played in that troubled period of Russian history.
