The discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012 was the culmination of 50 years of effort to understand the structure of all the visible matter in the Universe. However, many basic questions about matter and the Universe remain unanswered, for example: What was the origin of the matter? What is the dark matter? Why is the Universe so big and old? What is the fate of the Universe? The Higgs boson may provide clues to some of the answers, and higher-energy experiments at CERN may help show the way.
