‘BLESSED ARE THE STRANGERS ’ Film Screening with Director Q + A

Exclusive Cambridge screening of the new feature-length documentary ‘Blessed are the Strangers’, followed by Q and A with the director Ahmed Peerbux.

Synopsis: London in the late 1960s; a handful of English hippies get switched on to Sufism. Returning from Morocco intent on bringing Islam to the West, they establish a communal squat in Maida Vale before attempting to build a ‘Muslim village’ in the remote Norfolk countryside.

Meanwhile in Brixton, a group of young West Indians, also attracted to Sufism, find themselves fighting off puritanical extremists who deem their beliefs heretical and their blood ‘halal’.

Blessed are the Strangers tells the story of how these two very different groups of people came together to form Britain’s most diverse Muslim convert community.

Doors open at 18.30 to begin at 19.00 and the film will run for 50 minutes. Refreshments will be provided.
