Abstract

Although Africa accounts for 24% of the global burden of disease, the majority of related biomedical research still happens in Western countries. The scientific independence of Africa would mean that scientists across the continent are able to set their own research agenda and develop their own solutions. TReND in Africa aims to support scientific capacity development by providing researchers with training, expertise and equipment required for undertaking research. They are a group of scientist volunteers spread all around the world. Between them they run training courses which attract scientists from all across Africa, ship over equipment to help universities set up new labs, and send over science volunteers for working placements at African Universities. The speakers will discuss their work and how you can join them!
