Many-Body Excitations in One-Dimensional Electron Systems (SP Workshop)

Abstract
It has been predicted by Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid model, or simply Luttinger liquid model, that spin and charge waves of one-dimensional electron systems could travel at different speeds. Such phenomenon could be observed from the tunnelling process of electrons from one-dimensional wire to two-dimensional electron system.
This talk will discuss the experiments carried out for the measurements of momentum-resolved tunnelling of electrons from one dimensional electron systems to two-dimensional electron systems induced within GaAs heterostructures. Well-resolved spin-charge separation at low energy and parabolic dispersion of the first-level mode at higher energies, along with structure which resembles second-level excitations (which fades away rapidly at high momentum), were observed.
