Abstract
We give an exposition of the geometric and algebraic setup of knot contact homology. This is a powerful knot invariant due to Ekholm-Etnyre-Ng-Sullivan which is based upon the symplectic geometry of cotangent bundles, and defined using pseudoholomorphic curve counts. It is known that this invariant contains the A-polynomial of a knot and that it distinguishes the unknot inside threespace.
