Abstract

Genestack is a bioinformatics software company, created by European Bioinformatics Institute scientists. We are building a genomics operating system, aimed to reduce the chaotic clutter of inefficiency and incompatibility in today’s bioinformatics tools ecosystem.

We have a strong focus on metadata management: controlled vocabularies, ontologies, powerful search, public/private data integration and analysis. You can run complex computational genomics pipelines, use interactive collaborative dataviz apps, and deploy, share and control your own tools and data for internal or external collaborations. We have indexed and made available numerous public datasets and tools on the platform. We also do customisation and bespoke bioinformatics development and data curation for clients in diverse industries: pharma, hospitals, academia, agritech and consumer goods. Genestack is based within walking distance from Cambridge city centre.

Each summer we take 2-3 interns who work closely with us on developing new applications and functionality within the platform, often in collaboration with our partners or customers. Successful interns can join the company full-time (and a few have, and will come to the seminar!).

In this seminar we’ll tell about the company, our software and vision, and describe some possible projects.
