Abstract
Most chemists are familiar with quantum effects in electronic motion, which give rise to chemical bonds. This talk considers a different and relatively unexplored aspect of quantum mechanics in chemistry – ‘quantum dynamics’, the effect of quantum mechanics on the motion of the atomic nuclei.
This talk will give an overview of quantum dynamics, explaining why it is such a pain to calculate, and giving examples of quantum dynamics in chemical reactions and interactions between water molecules.
Series This talk is part of the ChemSoc - Cambridge Chemistry Society series.
