Abstract
As part of the Cambridge Science Festival, Cambridge Polish Studies and Polish Waves on Cambridge 105 present a special “Kinoteka Polish Film Club” screening of the classic Polish science fiction comedy film Sexmission (Seksmisja, 1984) within the series “Reproduction on Film: Sex, Secrets and Lies” together with the Department of History and Philosophy of Science. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Dr Stanley Bill, Lecturer in Polish Studie, including Dr Karolina Wigura, Editor, Kultura Liberalna
Seksmisja is a dystopian comedy in which a pair of time-travelling men arrive in a future world exclusively populated by women. The political organisation of this world is totalitarian, and the men soon find themselves in danger. Many viewers have interpreted the film partly as a commentary on communist Poland.
