Abstract
The LHC experiments have reported a tentative excess in comparison to Standard Model predictions in events with two energetic photons. A signal would consist of an object of mass 750 GeV being produced via the collision of two protons, which subsequently decays into the two photons (the same channel through which the Higgs boson was discovered, but at a much higher mass). I shall first review the experimental situation, then try to summarise the phenomenological scenarios being put forward to explain the excess.
