Abstract
Dopamine neurons are known to reflect the economic value of rewards. In this talk, I will describe unpublished experiments in which we investigated how dopamine value signals emerge during learning about probabilistic rewards. I will then present new experiments in which we asked how manipulation of dopamine neurons, using optogenetic methods, can influence animalsβ perceptual choices. These experiments demonstrate diverse roles dopamine plays in various decision contexts.
