Abstract
Edward Carson was one of the most significant figures in Edwardian politics. A champion of the United Kingdom and the Empire against what he perceived as the threat of Irish separatism, Carson played a significant role in radicalising both the Home Rule crisis and the Ulster Unionist response to it. On the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, which made the end of the UK as it then stood inevitable, this paper revisits Carson’s views, personality and legacy.
