Abstract

Metaphysics may be ruled out in the day-to-day experimental practice of science, but what about the questions that science points towards? Thinking about value, meaning and purpose is an integral part of being human, and some aspects of science bring these ideas to the fore. This is where the really interesting dialogue between science and religion can take place. What questions is science raising at the moment for researchers, and what can people of faith – particularly those working in science – contribute to the conversation? Dr Ruth Bancewicz is currently looking at a number of areas of biology, including the origin of the genetic code, active matter, cooperation, and ecology, all of which raise some fascinating and perhaps controversial questions for humankind.
