Abstract
The geology of building stones is often overlooked by the academic community and tends to be dismissed as nothing more than an outreach activity; what remains in a quarry is of more interest than what has been removed. This talk aims to change that view and highlight the importance of stone in architecture and cultural heritage. A knowledge of building and decorative stones can lead to unexpected career paths both in industry and in cross-disciplinary research.
