Complex Wavelets: What are they and what can they do?

Abstract
The Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT CWT ) is now a reasonably well-known technique for image analysis. It overcomes the problems of shift dependency and poor directional selectivity of the conventional Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and produces a multiscale directionally selective filterbank that quite closely imitates the V1 cortical filters in the vision systems of many mammals, including humans. In this talk I will describe the basic ideas behind the DT CWT and discuss some applications, such as basic denoising, image registration and fusion, and rotation-invariant feature matching for object detection.
