Dinosaurs from Mongolia
- đ¤ Speaker: Dr Altangerel Perle, National University of Mongolia, Ulaan Bataar
- đ Date & Time: Monday 26 February 2007, 11:00 - 11:30
- đ Venue: Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences
Abstract
Dr Perle will be visiting the Sedgwick Museum on Monday 26 February. While here he will be able to display the skulls of some dinosaurs that he has collected from Mongolia:
- Erlicosaurus (complete skull)
- Segnosaurus (partial skull)
Museum Director Dr David Norman commented: “These are two rather enigmatic dinosaurs that have been recovered from the Late Cretaceous, and have attracted a considerable amount of interest. In many respects they bear the hall-marks of typical carnivorous dinosaurs (such as Velociraptor and Tarbosaurus – both of which hail from the Mongolian Late Cretaceous). These two however are not out-and-out predators: their teeth are rather small, and not as adapted for tearing flesh as would be expected. Indeed they seem to represent a group of ancestrally predatory forms that are experimenting with omnivory or herbivory as an alternative way of life – fascinating evolutionary story (if true).”
The skulls will be on display in the Museum from 11:00 until 11:30 for this one day only.
