Abstract
Microscale structures provide convenient platforms for biomedical imaging and sensing using optics. This seminar will describe platforms that we are developing that span from basic research to patient monitoring. We have combined quantum dots with microspheres to enhance AFM -based bio-mechanical studies. The system utilizes near-field optical phenomena to study dynamics at the cell surface. We are also exploring the use of functionalized red blood cells as a blood analyte sensing platform. The red blood cells are functionalized with optically active sensors and can be interrogated through the skin.
